Cool New Publishing Tools to Make More Money from Your Books & Related Works with Carla King @ The Carlsbad City Library, Auditorium | Carlsbad | California | United States

Sell your books for far more money than the royalty share from distribution channels with new, easy-to-use tech tools and services. You'll learn how to streamline your production process by formatting print and ebooks at the same time, how to to slice and dice your writing to sell shorter works and combinations of works, and how to sell and pre-sell single books, stories, articles, and subscriptions (even in beta) direct to your readers. You can even package your writing with other products like digital audio, video, courses, even coffee mugs and t-shirts!

These tools and services are all non-exclusive, which means you can mix and match and make more money from your work and, at the same time, publish independently with the usual suspects like Amazon, IngramSpark, and Smashwords.

Most authors miss out on the opportunity to cash in on the “1000 True Fans” phenomenon to create a regular income stream and connect directly with readers who provide valuable feedback, encouragement, and inspiration to create future books and products. These technologies eliminate the barrier between writer, reader, providing direct communication and sales. It’s incredibly rewarding in many different ways!

About Carla King

In 2010 Carla King founded the Self-Publishing Boot Camp program of books, workshops and virtual classes that teach authors how to self-publish. Because she learned that most authors really don’t want to do it themselves, she created Author Friendly, a service that provides do-it-for-you services from book design and formatting to full-service planning and production.

Carla worked as a technical writing and web development consultant in the San Francisco Bay Area when she was offered a six-month contract in France. Determined to become a travel writer, in 1994 she self-published a guide to mountain biking in the South of France, which made enough money for her to travel to France twice more. Not surprisingly, this small success helped her fall in love with independent publishing. A year later, in 1995, Carla created, with the help of O’Reilly & Associates, one of the earliest travel blogs by sending dispatches to the Internet from the saddle of a Russian sidecar motorcycle she was test riding for the American importers. This was the beginning of a series of blogs, books, and a teaching and speaking career about travel, writing, and publishing.

Today, Carla splits her time between San Diego and Baja California where she writes and publishes adventure travel books for Misadventures Media and helps authors publish independently with Author Friendly. Currently, she is a frequent blogger for BookWorks, PBS MediaShift, and Discover Baja. She’s written seven books, including her Self-Publishing Boot Camp Guide for Authors, which is in its 3rd edition.
