Manuscript Critiques, Copyediting, and Mentoring |
Denise Middlebrooks Editor and Mentor denise@altitudesinrevision.com Formerly Acquisition Director for a small press, Denise now works as a freelance fiction editor. She has created and taught workshops at the Central Coast Writing Conference and coordinated and judged the About My Mother writing contest for Aberdeen Bay Publishing. Her short story, Amazing Grace, won its category in the 2003 San Diego Book Awards competition, and Othello Revised, her story about a crafty editor’s suggested revisions for Shakespeare’s famous play, appears in the December 2013 issue of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine. Denise holds a Specialized Certificate in Copyediting from UCSD. She believes that manuscripts require “sculpting”—hence, her passion for the revision stage of the writing process. For clients who prefer an evaluation of their work at the macro level, Ms. Middlebrooks offers comprehensive manuscript critiques. At the micro level, she performs detailed content edits, which identify issues with structure and target specific areas of the manuscript for revision.
